James Peter Sunds Dies Feb. 7

James Peter Sunds, son of Chris and Thomine (Haum) Sunds, was born December 23, 1894, on a farm near Bennington, Nebraska. He passed away February 7, 1974 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha following a lingering illness. He had attained the age of 79 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Jim lived most of his years in the Bennington and Arlington communities. He was united in marriage to Tracy Wulf. She preceded him in death January 6, 1949.

After his farming and cattle business career, he owned and operated the Florence Riding Stables. Following retirement he lived with his mother until her death at the age of 94 years. During this time he served as the Bennington Town Marshal.

He was baptized in the Christian Faith and was and active participating member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. Since the organization of the Senior Fellowship at St. Johns, he attended faithfully and enjoyed the company of fellow members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy, an infant brother, Einar, and brother, Martin.

He is survived by two sons, Elvin of Osceola, Iowa, and Wayne of Riverside Calif.; two daughters, Inez (Mrs. Ervin Neuhaus) of Kansas City, Mo., and Harriet (Mrs. Howard Lebbert) of Crescent, Iowa; three sisters, Frieda (Mrs. William Wiese) of Omaha, Mrs. Elvera Tietgen, Blair, Nebraska, Erna (Mrs. William Matzen) Wellington, Colo.; one brother, Albert Sunds of Arlington, Nebr.; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Sunday, February 10 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Norman E. Schroeder officiating. Father Elvin Sunds, a grandson, assisted.

Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Jerry Johnson. Organist was Mrs. Henry Kniep.

Pallbearers were Warren Sunds, Russell Wiese, Carl Buhl, Melvin Steinert, Robert Wulf, Elmer Wulf, Clifford Wulf and Leonard Schmidt.

Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery near Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Hadan-Golden Mortuary of Bennington was in charge of arrangements.
