Wm. Beyer Dead

The news of the death of William Beyer at Hot Springs, Ark, Tuesday morning came as quite a shock to his many friends in Blair. Mr. Beyer has been quite poorly the past year and some two weeks ago went to Hot Springs in the hope of benefiting his health, but the trip was of no avail.

William Beyer was born in Germany, January 10,1857, and came to America in 1890, coming to Blair two years later and buying the bakery of John Nestel, which business he had since conducted, building a large two store brick store few years ago which the bakery is now located.

Mr. Beyer Was married in Germany in 1881 to Miss Marie Codyn. Of this union seven children were born, five of them dying in infancy, and two Mrs. Wm. Madson of Pasadena, California and Felix Beyer of Blair, along with his wife survive him.

No funeral arrangements have been made.

Felix Beyer received a telegram from his mother at Hot Springs, Ark., yesterday forenoon that Mr. Beyer died suddenly of heart failure that morning and that she would arrive here with the body on Friday. Mr. Beyer went down there to try the hot baths to see if he could reduce his flesh and get his heart action better. He quit active work in the bakery some months ago on account of his heart, so the end was not entirely unexpected, though death is always a shock. The funeral arrangements are indefinite on account of the daughter, Mrs. Wm. Madsen, who lives at Pasadena, Calif. Mr. Beyer was 56 years old the 10th of last January. A more complete obituary will be given next week.

The funeral of the late Wm. Beyer, as respected citizen and tradesman of Blair, took place on Sunday June 1st, at the German Lutheran Church, Rev. A. W. Lambrecht officiating. The church was full of sympathizing friends and the service was conducted in both German and English, the whole proceedings being very impressive. Mr. Beyer was born in Germany on January 10, 1857, and died on May 27th at the Ozark Sanitarium, Hot Springs, Ark., where he had gone in the hope of renewing his health. The news of his death came as a shock to his many friends. Mr. Beyer came to this county twenty-three years ago and was followed a year later by his wife and three children, one of them dying six weeks after their arrival in Omaha. They have also lost by death two children in Germany, and one in Blair. Two years after Mr. Beyer’s arrival to this country he came to Blair and purchased a bakery from John, Nestil, which business he continued up to the time of his death. Mr. Beyer was married to Miss Marie Codyn who with one son, Felix, and daughter, Mrs. Wm. Madsen, of Pasadena, Calif., survive him. Mrs. Madsen arrived Saturday to attend the funeral. We understand Mrs. Beyer and son intend continuing the business.
