WILMA (BILLIE) SIEVERS, 75

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Blair for Wilma (Billie) Sievers who died February 27, 1989. Rev. Debra Tomsett-Welch will officiate.

Wilma Sievers was born September 1, 1913 at Harrison, Nebraska to LeRoy and Grace Smith. She graduated from Dodge High School, attended Doane College and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Nebraska.

She married Dr. Rudolph F. Sievers and was the mother of Mrs. Rex (Stephane) Engebretsen, Englewood, Colorado; H. Neal, MD, Blair; and LeRoy, Lincoln. She was the proud grandmother of Mrs. Lonnie (Melissa) Ackerman, Chris Engbretson and David Neal Sievers and the great-grandmother of Melinda Ackerman, all of whom survive her. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by a son-in-law, Rex Engelbretson and a daughter-in-law, Jane Sievers.

She was an active supporter of community activities since moving to Blair in 1946. She was a charter member of the Blair Hospital Auxiliary, Blair Federated Club and a staunch supporter of the Red Cross. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Blair Planning Commission and the Dock Board and served as secretary in both positions. She was the only woman to have been elected to the post of Police Magistrate in Blair.

She was pleased to have worked with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts programs and received the Silver Fawn Award and the Award of Merit from the Mid-American Council of the Boy Scouts. She could rightfully have been called “The First Lady of Boy Scouts in Blair.”

The family suggests memorials to the Congregational Church of Blair, Boy Scout Troop 143 of Blair or the charity of the giver’s choice.

There will be no visitation.
