Services are at 2 pm. Thursday, April 18 at First United Methodist Church in Harlan, iowa for Jerry Dean Onnen, 49 of Harlan, who died April 13, 1991 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan. Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

Jerry Dean Onnen was born December 13, 1941 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Manson High School in 1941 (?) and from Southeast Community college in Milford, Nebraska in 1973.

In December, 1963, he entered the United States Army, serving his country in Korea. After his honorable discharge in September, 1965, he returned to the Midwest where he traveled as a supervisor in the construction and installation of refrigeration systems in food processing plants.

He married Barbara Lyon in Harlan November 25, 1967.

He moved to Harlan in 1975 where he owned Lyon Plumbing & Heating. In 1982, he sold the business and became a plant engineer for Western Iowa Pork. He was employed by Bond Equipment Corp. in Logan, Iowa at the time of his death.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlan and the Shelby County V.F.W. Post No. 941 of Harlan.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Onnen of Harlan; a son, Michael of San Diego, California; a daughter, Jennifer of Harlan; his mother, Mae Onnen of Manson, Iowa; a brother, Larry Onnen of Blair and a sister, Jill (Mrs. Jim) Schubert of Manson, Iowa.

Pauley Funeral home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.
