Roger Dean Sundell was born February 25, 1931, to Soren and Maybell (Folsom) Sundell in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended school in Omaha, Denver, and back to Omaha, where he graduated from Central High School in 1949. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving from January of 1951 to August of 1954. Sixteen months of that time was spent at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland where he was a mechanic helping to keep the planes flying.

In May of 1957, Roger was married to Dorothy Mae (Dot) Hughes. They lived in Omaha where four children were born to them: Don, Sheri, Bob, and Rick. They spent many weekends camping and fishing. In December 1969, they moved to rural Blair, Nebraska, where Roger built their family home. He worked for the Singers Corporation for 34 years repairing data processing equipment.

Dot died in 1974, after suffering from a brain tumor, leaving Roger to raise four school age children. He married Debi Krosko in 1975. They were divorced in 1993. Roger took early retirement from his job and worked for Christopherson Well Company. He also worked for a time on a ranch near Valentine, Nebraska.

In 1994, he moved his trailer along the Missouri River near Verdel, Nebraska. Many happy days were spent there with family and friends. Roger was an avid fisherman and a big fan of Nebraska football.

On May 4, 1996, he and Kathryn (Nielsen) Liska were married at Niobrara State Park Lodge. They lived on her farm for a year and a half, later moving to the new town of Niobrara. They liked to travel and enjoyed vacations to the Black Hills, Rocky Mountains, and Alaska. They also took tours to Costa Rica, Panama Canal Zone, Mexico, and Canada.

Roger’s health began to fail and in November 2014, he entered Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska. Roger died there on October 30, 2015, of Alzheimer’s Disease.
