John Becklun Death Victim Monday At 76

Prominent Farmer in the Rose District West of Blair

Death came to John Becklun Monday evening at his farm home in the Rose Hill school district in this county. He had been in poor health for some time. Last year he submitted to an operation in an Omaha hospital and sometime later he was a patient at the Mayo Brothers hospital in Rochester.

But medical science could do but little for him and his condition gradually became worse. He had been able to be around the farm and made frequent trips to town but finally he took to his bed and the end came Monday.

Deceased was born in Sweden, December 14, 1861. At an early age he came to America with his mother and located in Illinois. Later they moved to Florence, Nebraska, and then to Modale, Iowa where they lived until he was 19 years of age.

In 1881 they moved to Blair and settled on the farm in the Rose Hill vicinity. Here he spent the remainder of his life and in 1911 he was married to Mrs. Ada Whiteis Hober and to this union one son, John, jr., was born. Besides his son he leaves the wife and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Cullen Wright, also two sisters, Mrs. William Flannigan of Herman and Mrs. Julia Flanigan, of Blair.

John Becklun was a man of marked ability and a good citizen in every respect. He was scrupulously honest and leaves a host of friends who will remember him for the high type citizen that he was.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday afternoon from the home at 2 o’clock and at 2:30 at the Rose Hill church and interment will be made in the Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. A. W. Clarke, (rest missing)
