Services for Frederick L. Opfer, 88 of Fremont who died January 26, 1993 at Arbor Manor, Fremont will be 2 p.m Thursday, January 28 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Dana Mark will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery north of Arlington.

Frederick L. Opfer was born July 14, 1902 in York, Nebraska. He lived at York and Hampton, Nebraska until 1941 when he moved to Fontanelle, Nebraska where he farmed. In 1946 he bought a farm near Arlington and moved into Arlington in 1969. He moved to Fremont in 1977 and into Arbor Manor in May, 1991.

In addition to farming, he worked for Marshall Nursery at Arlington, retiring from there in 1976 after 21 years.

He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont; a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Nutrition Site in Fremont and a member of the kitchen band. He was formerly active in the Washington County Farm Bureau and was the Arlington Junior Legion Baseball manager. He was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Arlington.

He married Ellen Willcock January 9, 1935 at Stockholm, Nebraska. She preceded him in death July 31, 1975.

He married Wilma Landerfield Smeal February 14, 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Pauline Timm Opfer; his first wife, Ellen; six sisters, Erna Kaiser, Gertrude Krenke, Lydia Betteger, Hulda Sagehorn, Ida Roehrs and an infant, Pauline and five brothers, Ernst, Walter, and three infants.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; four sons, Mertin of Houston, Texas; Larry of Elkhorn; Marvin and Dallas of Omaha; three daughters, Janet (Mrs. Victor) Romans of Reno, Nevada; Audrey (Mrs. William) Shockey and Beverly Opfer, both of Omaha; two step-daughters, Donna (Mrs. Kenneth) Kehne of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Marilyn (Mrs. Richard) Nott of North Bend; brothers, Herbert of Bradshaw, Nebraska and Lawrence of Lincoln; a sister, Martha Driewer of Stoutghton, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Opfer, Scott Opfer, Michael Opfer, Ward Opfer, William C. Shockey and Dave Romero.

Todd Nott, Troy Nott, Jeff Kehne and Cameron Kehne were honorary pallbearers.

Renate Mark will be organist.

Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
