Services for Wilma S. Smeal Opfer, 82, of Fremont were Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1995, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial was at Lutheran Cemetery at Dodge, Neb. She died at her home Feb. 4.

She was born in Dodge on March 2, 1912. She grew up at Dodge and after her marriage in 1931, she and her husband farmed northeast of Hooper. The couple farmed most of their married life. She moved into Hooper in the early 1950's and came to Fremont.

She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Chruch in Fremont. She had been a 4-H leader for several years while living in rural Hooper. She worked at the former Campbell's Soup Company in Fremont until retiring in 1974.

Survivors include daughters Donna Kehne of Minneapolis, Minn., and Marilyn Nott of North Bend; step-sons Mertin Opfer of Houston, Texas, Larry Opfer of Elkhorn and Marvin and Dallas Opfer, both of Omaha; step-daughters Janet Romans of Reno, Nev., Audrey Shockey and Beverly Opfer, both of Omaha; brother Richard Landerfield of Dodge; sisters Milada Chechetts and Norma Fritton, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Hilbert F. J. Smeal and Frederick L. Opfer; an infant daughter; and a sister.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
