Christopher John Ortmeier, 24, of Nickerson died Saturday, April 12, 1997 at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Rev. Frank Lordemann and Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in the Camp Fontanelle Cemetery south of Fontanelle.

Ortmeier was born Jan. 26, 1973 in Omaha. He moved with his family to the Arlington area when he was 12 years old. He attended St. James Catholic School in Omaha and was a 1991 graduate of Arlington High School. He attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney for two years. After college, he worked for Thompson Construction Co. of Arlington and then for Valley Corp. at Valley. He was a heavy equipment operator. He and his brothers then formed the C & J Ortmeier Trenching.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and was a member of the Arlington Town Baseball Team.

Survivors are his parents, Ric "Eric" and Wanda (Spies ) Ortmeier; brothers, Steven Ortmeier and Jeff Ortmeier and sisters, Annie Ortmeier and Lindsay Ortmeier, all of Nickerson; his maternal grandmaother, Darlene Spies Kovar and stepgrandfather, Jerry Kovar of Des Moines, Iowa and a special friend, Rachel Peters of Arlington.

Pallbearers will be Woody Hesman, Mike Grefe, Jamie Anderson, Scott Grafton, Matt Pittman, Adam Schafersman, John Groeteke and Steve Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Arlington Baseball Team.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

NICKERSON-Christopher John Ortmeier, 24, of rural Nickerson died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at his home.

Ortmeier was born Jan. 26, 1973, in Omaha. He lived all of his life in the Arlington area. He attended St. James Catholic School in Omaha and was a 1991 graduate of Arlington High School. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Revs. Frank Lordemann and Dave Korth will officiate. Visitation is in progress until 4 tonight at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, and will continue at 6 tonight at church. There will be a vigil service 7 tonight at the church. Burial will be at Camp Fontanelle Cemetery in Nickerson.
