RITES FOR A.A. WILKINS HELD SATURDAY

A. A. Wilkins, a patient sufferer for months, passed away at his home about four miles west of Blair on Thursday morning of last week.

Deceased was the son of the late William Wilkins, who was a pioneer farmer in the county, and who amassed a comfortable fortune during his time of activity.

Bert, as all knew him, was born September 26, 1873, and was thus past 58 years of age at his death. He was born and reared in this county, and received his education in the Sutherland school.

He was married to Miss Mary Vohries, also of this county, in 1903, and to them six children were born, all of whom are living and all feel deeply the great loss of a kind and loving father.

Deceased was always interested in civic affairs and was for years road overseer in his district. He was also a candidate two years ago for county supervisor.

In his dealings with men he was fair and honorable, and he leaves a memory with those who knew him that will remain as an ideal for which to strive.

Surviving are his wife and six children: Mrs. Clarence Hansen of Orum; Marshall of Iowa; Warren of Ketchikan, Alaska; Mrs. P. C. Christensen of Tekamah; Albert E. of Irvington and Mrs. Raymond Gillette of Blair; also five sisters; Mrs. Frank Biffar and Mrs. Fred Peck of Blair; Mrs. Ralph Johns of Chehalis, Washington; and Mrs. Herman Petersen of Herman; and three brothers: Cleon R. and Chauncey of Blair and Grover of Kennard.

Funeral services were concocted last Saturday from the Baptist church with Rev. T. J. Reese officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Thus Washington county has lost another good citizen, a man who stood for what he thought was right and who, in shaping his course of action, was able to see and consider the rights of others.

A. “Bert” Wilkins, 58, prominent farmer of west of Blair, who died last Thursday morning following a lengthy illness. Six nephews of Mr. Wilkins served as pallbearers. Interment was in Blair cemetery.

Mr. Wilkins, lifelong resident of Washington county and a leading democratic worker for 30 years, is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. Clarence Hansen of Orum, Marshall E. Wilkins of Blair, Warren Wilkins of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mrs. P. C. Christensen of Tekamah, Albert E. Wilkins of Irvington and Mrs. Raymond Gillett of Blair.
