25 Mar., 1937 - The Enterprise County Farmer 62 Is Suicide Victim

Jens C. Petersen, living south of Blair, was found last Saturday hanging in an outbuilding at his home, apparently a suicide. He had been in poor health for some time and being despondent over the depression caused him to take his life.

Jens Christian Petersen was born November 1, 1875. Departed this life March 20, 1937. Age 61 years, 4 months and 20 days. He was born in New Jersey and came with his parents to a farm west of Blair when at the age of two.

On March 4, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Mathilda Jensen, of Blair.

To this union five children were born. As follows: Nels Petersen, Mrs. Amelia Curley, Mrs. Sarah Maxwell, George Petersen, and Mrs. Dorothy Schneider.

He is survived by his wife, five children, three grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Nels S. Petersen; three brothers: Pete and Nels of Blair; and Carl of cedar Bluffs; two sisters; Mrs. Lydia Andersen, of Herman; and Mrs. Clara Jensen, of Omaha.

Mr. Petersen was baptized and confirmed into the Danish Lutheran church at Orum, and has resided on a farm in the McCarthy district for 28 years.

He was an industrious farmer, upright in his dealings, and the family has the sympathy of the entire community where they reside.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Baptist church in Blair with Rev. T. J. Reese officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
