Man Falls From Stack of Hay at Harry Wrich Farm

Peter Lohse, 54, a resident of Washington county for the past 52 years, was killed about six o’clock Tuesday evening when he slipped and fell from a stack of hay he was helping round off at the Harry Wrich farm a short distance south of Kennard. The man landed on his head and shoulders and his neck was broken in the plunge, medical examination revealed. He died almost instantly.

The accident victim, an uncle of Harry and Charles Wrich of the Kennard vicinity, had worked from time to time for the brothers as a farm hand and was employed by Charles at the time of the tragedy. Charles and Lohse were helping Harry with his haying and were almost ready to quit for the day when the elder man plunged from the stack after a desperate effort to catch himself.

The body was brought to Blair and funeral services are planned for Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the home of Mr. Lohse’s sister, Mrs. Henry Wrich, 501 West Front street. Rev. Hans C. Jersild will officiate and the body will be taken to the Orum cemetery for burial.

Mr. Lohse was born in Holstein, Germany, in 1878, and came to America with his parents and brother and sister in 1880. The family settled near Orum where they farmed for a number of years. After the death of the parents the children disposed of the farm and since that time Mr. Lohse had worked a greater part of the time as a farm hand. He had never married.

Surviving are one brother, Henry Lohse of Benson, and the sister, Mrs. Wrich.
