Charles H. Cloutier, 79, of Onekama, Michigan, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan.

He was born July 14, 1936, in Escanaba, Michigan. The son of John and Helen (Hargreaves) Cloutier.

He attended and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy. Later he attended Northern Michigan University and West Shore Community College, where he earned an Associate’s of Arts in Criminal Justice.

He moved to Manistee in 1963 and worked for WMTE Radio Station. In 1964, he became an Officer in the Manistee City Police Department, retiring in 1997 with the rank of Lieutenant.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Jans on June 8, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jans Cloutier; daughter, Cynthia (Chris) Lundberg of Blair, Nebraska; son, Gerry (Joanne) Navarre, of Dexter, Michigan; grandchildren, Steven and Abigail Lundberg and Nick Navarre; brother John (Jean) Cloutier of Donaldsonville, Georgia. And friend Tom Bruce of Manistee.

His son Charles H. Cloutier II preceded him in death in 1973.

Chuck was a member of the Manistee Golf and Country Club, Manistee Elks Lodge No. 250, VFW Walsh Post No. 4499, American Legion Manistee Post No. 10, and was a long time board member at the Filer Credit Union in Manistee. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee, Michigan. Military honors will be provided by the Manistee United Veterans Council Ritual Team. Final interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family those wanting to remember Chuck are asked to consider a gift in his memory to the Fallen Officers Association.
