A Funeral Service for Walter LaVerne Holstein of Newbury Park, California, formerly of Mountain Home, Arkansas, was held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Reverend Mike Clark officiating. Visitation was Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until service time, at Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel, Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Walter passed away October 2, 2015, in Newbury Park, California at the age of 91. He was born August 5, 1924, in Herman, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Laura Bendorf Holstein. He married Delores Wohlers on May 14, 1950, at Storm Lake, Iowa, and was a Truck Driver for P.I.E. and Ringsby. Walter was a U.S. Army veteran. Walter moved from Omaha, Nebraska, to Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1989. After Delores passed away, Walter moved to California. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, and watching baseball.

Walter is survived by his son, Scott (Shannon) Holstein of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Diane (Richard) Shershenovich of Agoura Hills, CA; two brothers, Marvin Holstein of Early, IA, and Toby Holstein of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Phyllis Bruns of Alta, IA; and six grandchildren, Daniel, Taylor, Dylan, Jack, Sean, and Erin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Christian, Raymond, Donald and Gene; and two sisters, Ethel and Gladys.

Entombment will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Military Honors will be provided by the Ozark V.F.W. Post #3246 and United States Army Honor Guards.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
