STANLEY R. OSBORN BURIED HERE LAST FRIDAY

Native Of Blair, Traveler, Author And Newspaper Writer

Stanley R. Osborn, native of Blair, died Tuesday of last week in Duluth, Minnesota, of a heart attack. He became ill during an automobile tour of North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The remains were brought to Blair last Friday and interment was made in the family plot in the Blair cemetery beside that of his father and mother.

He was a graduate of the Blair High School and later attended the University of Nebraska. In his early life his father, L.W. Osborn, was appointed United States Consul to Samoa and the family resided there for a number of years. While in Samoa, Stanley busied himself in making a very fine collection of native costumes and curios which just last year was turned over to the State University. He also did considerable writing and it was here that he obtained the setting for his popular novel, "Red Hair and Blue Sea," and a number of other short stories.

His writings appeared in many of the leading magazines of the country and he was on the regular staff of writers for several of these periodicals.

After working on the Omaha Bee, The Omaha Daily News and on a Chicago paper, he returned to Blair in 1920 where he resided in the old family home until 1937. Here he did much writing and while here he conceived the idea of touring the country, studying first hand the history and conditions he found. He apparently kept this up as it was on a like trip that he was stricken.

To those who knew him personally, deceased was a very unassuming person and was kindness itself. For years he devoted his life to the care of his aging mother being her constant companion after the death of his father, who died in Samoa. He has a number of old friends and schoolmates in Blair who will revere his memory.

He leaves a number of relatives in other places but none in Blair. His father was a well known practicing attorney in early Blair and a man of ability. The chapter, with Stanley's passing, is closed in-so-far as Blair and the Osborn family is concerned.
