Peter Frederick Schroeder was born in Hannover, Germany, Sept. 11, 1855, where he spent the first 27 years of his life. In 1882 he came to this country, first to Racine, Wisconsin, where he worked for about a year, then to Arlington, Nebraska, where he was employed as a farm laborer for several years before he engaged in farming for himself. On Dec. 18, 1891, he was united in marriage to Margeretto Brockmann, and this union was blessed with five children, of which one daughter, Mrs. Albert Dittmar of Lexington, and one son, Herman F. Schroeder of Carr, Colorado, survive, the other three having died in infancy.

His life companion was also taken from him in April 1899. In 1906, he came to Dawson county and located near Buffalo where he farmed for several years, but for the past ten years he has made his home with his children, first with his son, then the last several years with his daughter. On about Nov. 1st, he went to Carr, Colorado, for a visit with his son and family, where death overtook him Dec. 16th at the age of 72 year, 3 months and 8 days. On the following Monday he was laid to rest in the family lot in the Lutheran cemetery near Arlington. As a youth Mr. Schroeder united with the Lutheran church and remained true to that faith unto the end.
