Former Arlington Woman Killed In Fremont

The funeral of the late Mrs. Henry Wisner, of Fremont, who met with a tragic death last Wednesday at the I street crossing of the Burlington railroad was held from her late residence in Fremont Saturday. The body of the unfortunate woman was taken to Arlington where it was buried in the cemetery beside her father and sister.

Mrs. Wisner left the Fremont hospital last Wednesday where she had been under treatment for a nervous trouble, fifteen minutes before she was killed. At 11:30 a.m. a string of box cars pushed by a switch engine ran over her. Mrs. Wisner’s body was carried a distance of fifty feet by the trucks of the box car. Her skull was crushed, her face bruised and one foot mangled. The body was removed to her home.

Mrs. Wisner was divorced from her husband a few years ago but they had the decree set aside recently. During a brief period she received treatment in a hospital in Lincoln. She went to the Fremont hospital last Sunday, being accompanied by her husband.

Mrs. Wisner was 28 years old and was formerly Miss Anna Laaker, of Arlington, where her family had resided for many years. Her husband is firmly convinced that the death of his wife was purely accidental. He says that Mrs. Wisner was probably on her way to the home of his parents and that she did not notice the approaching cars until they were nearly upon her. The fact that she fell upon the crossing he believes was due to her illness. She was very weak, he says, and the sight of the approaching train frightened her into helplessness.

Note: She is buried in Sec Q, Lot 4 in the Arlington Cemetery. ~~~ Obituary courtesy of the Washington County Genealogical Society. Newspaper clippings on file in the Blair Public Library at Blair, Nebraska.~~~
