BLANE W. LEMMONS, 83

(veteran)

Former Blair resident Blane W. Lemmons, 83, died Dec. 31, 2005, in Midland, Texas.

Blane W. Lemmons was born Aug. 25, 1922 in Hunter, Kan. He moved to Buhl, Idaho, as a young boy. He lived in Buhl until joining the National Guard in June 1939, at the age of 16. He later entered active duty with the 1343rd Engineers, where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands building and repairing airstrips for the Asiatic-Pacific offense. In June 1944, he returned to the states where he met his wife-to-be, Wilma, and the couple was married on July 5, 1944. In October, 1944, he was deployed to the European theater and served in Germany, Belgium and France before returning home in August of 1945.

Mr. Lemmons and his family moved to Nebraska in 1952. They were members of First Christian Church in Blair. He worked as a carpenter for many years and started Lemmons Construction in 1962. He built many homes in and around Blair until he retired from construction in 1982, and then became the Washington County Building Inspector. In 1988, he retired and moved to Scottsbluff, where he oldest daughter lived.

Loving to work, he took a job as the city building inspector of Scottsbluff, a position he held until 1995, when he and his wife moved to Midland to be near their youngest daughter.

In Midland, he was known as the “Tin Man Maker,” making the tin men and other crafts under the name, “Keeping Grandpa Busy.”

He was very proud of his family and his military service during World War II. A military memorial service was held with all his immediate family.

He is loved dearly by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. His family notes, “It is a comfort to know that he loved Jesus Christ and has received his crown of glory and we will see him again in paradise.”

He is survived by his wife, Wilma, and daughter, Linda, both of Midland; daughter, Gina, of Scottsbluff; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Condolences may be mailed to Wilma Lemmons at 2211 Stanolind Ave., Midlands, TX 79705, or email to lin69@sbcglobal.net
