George J. Haidley, 87, of Fremont, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Carl Zoucha officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.

George J. Haidley was born Oct. 4, 1914, in Columbus to Christopher and Katherine (Boothe) Haidley. He grew up in Ames and Schuyler.

On Oct. 12, 1940, he married Gertrude M. Shanahan at Cedar Bluffs. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Fremont.

Mr. Haidley was employed by Christensen Sand and Gravel in Fremont until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Drue Haidley of Omaha, and Michael and Char Haidley of Lisle, Ill., two daughters and sons-in-law. Mary Dianne and Michael Kelly of Pocahontas, Iowa and Connie and Mark Coufal of Mead, a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Carol Long of Las Vegas, Nev., eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, sister, Violet Stevens, and two grandsons.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
