A PIONEER WHO CAME HERE IN 1862, MRS. HAIN DIED YESTERDAY; FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY AFTERNOON; WELL-KNOWN BLAIR WOMAN SURVIVED BY SEVEN CHILDREN; LOCAL LEGION POST NAMED FOR SON, STANLEY, WHO DIED DURING WAR

Mrs. C. B. Hain, 78, Washington County pioneer and long a well-known resident of Blair and vicinity, died yesterday afternoon at her home, 406 West Colfax Street, following a lengthy illness.

She had been a resident of Washington County for three quarters of a century, having come here before Blair was founded.

Mrs. Hain was a Gold Star mother, her son, Stanley, having died in 1918 during the World War while stationed at the Great Lakes training camp. The Blair post of the American Legion is named in his memory.

As Mary Jane Tyson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Watson Tyson Sr., Mrs. Hain was born July 15, 1859 at Lind??, Wisconsin. Three years later the family came west by ox team and settled in Washington County after an arduous journey.

Mrs. Hain grew to womanhood in the pioneer country, when the now extinct Cumming City north of here was a flourishing village and Omaha, then a small town, was the metropolis of the Missouri river region. Many times her father walked to Omaha and back from the homestead north of Blair’s present location.

She was married C. B. Hain February 13, 1882, and they continued to reside in the Blair vicinity on a farm until 1922, when they retired and moved into the city. Mrs. Hair died November 25, 1925.

Christened in the Lutheran faith as a young girl, Mrs. Hain for many years had attended the Methodist Church. She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grand.

Surviving her are four daughters, Mrs. Ed Haller of Pasadena, California, Mrs. Walter Appleby, Mrs. Mary Gilbert and Miss Edith Hain, all of Blair; and three sons, Watson Hain of Valley, Howard of Fremont and George of Blair. There are 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church, the Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen in charge. Burial will follow in Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers as announced this morning will be James Conety, Prentice Smith, Arthur Gustason, Oscar Matthews, E. B. Redfield and M. E. Tyson.

PIONEER BLAIR LADY, 78, IS DEATH VICTIM

Came to Nebraska in 1862. Lived in Washington County 75 Years

GOLD STAR MOTHER

Mrs. Mary Hain of West Colfax street, Blair passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 13, 1937 at 1:15 p.m. following a protracted illness that kept her confined to her bed for eight months.

Deceased was born July 15, 1859 in Linden, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Watson Tyson. When three years of age, she, with her parents, came to Nebraska, making the trip by ox team and in a covered wagon. The trip took a month’s time, and when they reached here the father immediately settled on a piece of land and they became fixtures in the county.

On the old Tyson farmstead north of Blair she grew to womanhood. In 1882 she was married to Charles B. Hain, and they immediately went to farming in the same neighborhood in which she was reared. Here a family of nine children were born. One died in infancy and another, Stanley, gave his life for his country in the late World War, and it is in his honor that the Blair post, know as Stanley E. Hain Post was christened.

The husband passed away on November 25, 1925, and shortly after that Mrs. Hain moved to town and gave over the arduous duties of the farm to younger hands.

She was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church but she has been a constant attendant of the Methodist church in which organization she did her part faithfully. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge and of the Past Noble Grand club and of the American Legion auxiliary, in all of which she performed her duties faithfully until her health failed.

She leaves to mourn her departure her children, Mrs. Ed Haller of Pasadena, California; Watson Hain of Valley, Nebraska; Mrs. Walter Appleby of Blair; Edith at home; Howard of Fremont; George of Blair and Mrs. Mary Gilbert of Blair and also two brothers, Peter M. and Watson Tyson and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Warrick all of Blair.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday afternoon, at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church.
