SERVICES HELD FOR FORMER COUNTY TREASURER

Services for 79 year old Clifford G. Halbert were held Saturday, November 24th. Mr. Halbert died on November 22, 1979 in Blair. Mr. Halbert had been the Washington County Treasurer for over 40 years and retired about seven years ago.

Services were at the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Bee officiating. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Clifford G. Halbert was born at Imogene, Iowa on February 5, 1900. He was married to Nona Ireland on September 21, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived at 1740 South Street in Blair.

Surviving is his wife Nona of Blair, two sisters and one brother. They are: Bernice Halbert, Lincoln; Mrs. Wm. Gordon, Omaha; and Dale Halbert of Raymond, Nebraska.

Mr. Halbert moved from Decatur in 1921 with his father who bought the Blair Drug Store. He was Washington County Treasurer for over 40 years. Mr. Halbert was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Treasurer of the St. Mary’s Church for many years, Treasurer of the Blair Golf Club and Treasurer of Boy Scouts in the early thirties.

Cliff was an avid sports fan and loved hunting, fishing, golf, bowling and played shortstop on early Blair baseball teams.

Pallbearers were: Dale Cradell, Bill Smith, Kenneth Jensen, Harold Rabbass, Augie Stricker and Keith Vinton.
