Luella R. George, 97

Luella R. George, 97, of Papillion, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Hillcrest Country Estates.

Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 3, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary. Interment was in the Cedar Dale Cemetery.

Luella Ruth Simpson was born November 25, 1913, at Omaha, to Clarence and Lucy Simpson.

She was raised by her grandparents in Blair after her mother died in the flu epidemic of 1918. She graduated from Blair High School and Dana College, where she earned a bachelor of science in education. She taught at Thone and Long Creek country schools in Washington County, and Walnut Hill and Fontenelle Elementary Schools in Omaha.

On Nov. 10, 1934, she married Warren E. George, in Red Oak, Iowa. The couple was married for 69 years.

In 1968, Mrs. George received an honorary State Life Membership in the Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers in appreciation of her outstanding service to children and youth.

She is survived by a daughter Shirlee Nance; grandchildren: Kirk and Jacqueline Nance, Amy and Jeff Thompson, all of Papillion; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Emma Nance, Elle Lu, Faith and Lucy Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003; and a sister, Marilyn Rolland.

Memorials are suggested to the Papillion-LaVista Scholarship Fund.

Kahler-Dolce Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

After 69 years of marriage, Warrend died on July 13, 2003. Luella and Warren had one daughter, Shirlee Nance. Preceded in death by husband, and sister Marilyn Rolland. She is survived by daughter Shirlee; grandchildren: Kirk and Jacqueline Nance, Amy and Jeff Thompson, all of Papillion; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Emma Nance; Elle Lu, Faith and Lucy Thompson. SERVICE: Thursday 10am Kahler-Dolce Mortuary. Interment: Cedar Dale Cemetery. VISITATION: Wednesday 1-8pm at mortuary with family receiving friends 6-8pm. Memorials to Papillion LaVista Scholarship Fund.
