Dan Carr, an aged resident at the county farm, died early Friday morning and Rev. Father O’Driscoll conducted the funeral at the Catholic church at 10 o’clock Saturday morning. He came to this country from Ireland about 60 years ago and would have been 86 in September. He has been blind for a good many years. He was employed on the old Sioux City & Pacific railroad for many years, after that he did expert garden work about town until his sight began to fail. He leaves no known relatives in this country.

Dan Carr, one of the inmates of the poor house for the past sixteen or seventeen years died on last Thursday night. The funeral was held on Saturday morning at 9:30 at the Catholic church in this city and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

DAN CARR PASSES TO HIS ETERNAL REST

Dan Carr died at the county poor farm early Friday morning from the infirmities incident to old age. For the past sixteen years, Dan has been passing the winter of life amid the meagre surroundings that fall to the lot of those who have failed to provide for the comforts of old age by saving money in their youth. The closing years of old Dan's life were spent in darkness and to an omnivorous reader the loss of sight added to the miseries of a wrecked physique.

Dan Carr came to Nebraska Territory from the Emerald Isle when a young man, and enlisted in the civil war. He came to Blair when the town was in its infancy. For many year Dan was employed on the old Sioux City & Pacific Railroad. His was the life of a humble laborer but he had the happy facility of making and keeping friends. Carr in his younger days had the brilliancy and wit that was characteristic of the older Irish generation.

Many an older resident remembers the rapier-like linguistic stabs of old Dan Carr. he died pennilesss, but old friends of his brighter and better days remembered the splendid traits of the old man and on Saturday morning, Rev. Father O'Driscoll held Mass for the repose of his soul.

The remains were laid at rest in the Blair cemetery. The pallbearers were Mayor Johnson, Chief of Police Dulaney, James E. Maher, J.K. Powers, Joseph Cook and Madison Davis.

Dan Carr, 86 years of age, died at the county farm last Friday morning and was buried in the Blair cemetery Saturday A.M., Rev. Fr. O’Driscoll conducting funeral service at the Catholic church, of which deceased was a lifetime communicant. Deceased came to America 60 years ago and had been in Blair since the early days of the town, employed as a section man on the railroad, until age rendered him unable to perform the physical labor incident thereto. He had been at the county farm for the past 15 or 18 years and totally blind for three or four years. No known relatives are living. He was a very intelligent man, a great reader of current news, well informed on all topics of interest, a gentleman born and bred, and commanded the respect of those who knew him well.
