WALTER CARTER FELL DEAD

HAS BEEN IN ILL HEALTH FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH HEART TROUBLE

WAS PAST 65 YEARS OF AGE

The end came very suddenly for Walter Carter at about 8 o’clock yesterday morning. He went out early and started to hoe his potatoes and had almost finished the last row when he fell and death was instantaneous from heart failure, his heart having bothered him for some five years.

Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Guy Hinkley, who was hanging out her clothes nearby, was by his side in a few minutes, though neither saw him fall. A doctor was called but they pronounced him dead when they arrived, his heart having given way from the exercise.

The funeral service will be held at the Methodist church at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, Rev. Carl G. Bader officiating. Burial will be in the Herman cemetery, the family having lived in Cuming City township for a number of years.

Walter was born in a small homestead cabin built near where the city hall is now located, July 18th, 1862, some seven years before Blair was founded. He was the son of Alexander Carter, one of the original Carter family who once owned the ground upon which Blair is now located.

The family moved to Cuming City township and Walter grew to manhood there. On February 11th, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Kruse, also of that township. Six children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy and three children died in Canada, Mayme, Cecelia and Julia, leaving but one son, Clyde A. Carter, of McGehee, Ark., who will be here for the funeral Friday.

Besides the wife and son he leaves one brother, Orin, better known as “Zeek,” Carter and one sister, Mrs. Walter Peck, of this city. Also a host of relatives and friends, who extend their deepest sympathy.

Mr. Carter was a member of the Methodist church, having put in his letter for membership here only last Sunday. He was also a member of the W.O.W. and carried a policy for $3,000.
