Gerald Emory Bevins, 85

Former Blair resident Gerald E. Bevins, 85, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Midlands Hospital in Papillion.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.

Gerald E. Bevins was born March 6, 1917, in Cedar Rapids to Charles and Margaret (Cox) Bevins. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School, and Kearney State Teachers College. On Oct. 31, 1940, he married Twila Michael in Fullerton. The couple moved to Blair in 1960, where he worked for Hancock Equipment Co.; to Herman in 1965; to Omaha in 1972; and to Laramie, Wyo., where he was a mechanic instructor at the Wyoming Technical Institute.

The Bevins moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1987 and in 1995, moved to Bellevue.

After working for Hancock Implement, Mr. Bevins started the Gateway Tractor Supply Co. in Blair and Fort Calhoun. In later life, he had a vacuum repair business.

Mr. Bevins was a member of the North Platte Elks Club and the Blair First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Twila; two sons, Gerald M. Bevins of Temecula, Calif., and Frank D. Bevin, Sr. of Omaha; three daughters, Kay Lynn Kline of Scottsdale, Ramona Bevins of Ashland, and Laureen Greenwood of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Dr. C. Rex Bevins of Lincoln; and one sister, Dorothy Froelich of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn; brother, Robert; and sister, Arlene.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
