Former Blair Woman Killed in Collision

Julie Bieber, 33, of Waukon, Iowa, was killed in a two-car accident late Tuesday, April 1 according to reports from police, the Omaha World Herald said Wednesday.

Mrs. Bieber is the daughter of Mrs. Julia Ackerman of Blair. She resided in the Washington county area at one time. Other members of her family include Marguerite Zeigler, Bill Zeigler and Bill Hunt, all of Blair.

Services were held Friday, April 4, in Iowa for her.

The authorities indicate that the car she was driving collided with one driven by Lawrence Gehling. Gehling was reportedly charged with failure to stop at a stop sign.

Services Held on Friday for Julie Bieber

Julie Ellen Bieber passed away at Waukon, Iowa, Tuesday, April 1, 1980. Formerly of Blair, she was the daughter of Mrs. Julia Ackerman and the late Melvin Ackerman of Herman.

Julie Ellen was a graduate of Blair High School and a graduate of Drake University at Des Moines. She held a Master’s degree in music from Northern University, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

At Drake University, she met and was married to James Bieber of Waukon, Iowa July 10, 1966. Her husband also majored in music and is a graduate of Drake.

After graduation from University they lived at Rochester, New York and then in Billings, Montana, 3 years where her husband taught music at Rocky Mountain University and they were involved in church music as organist and choir work.

In 1974, they moved back to Waukon, Iowa, where they have since resided. At the time of her passing, Julie Ellen was a teacher of music at Junior and Senior Community Schools at West Union, Iowa, and also at Waukon, Iowa. Both she and her husband involved in church and choir work.

Julie Ellen was born May 12, 1946, at Omaha, Nebraska, and is survived by her husband, James; a daughter, 11; twin sons, Peter and Nathan, 8, all of Waukon; her mother, Julia Ackerman of Blair; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Stamy of Florida and also many, many relatives and friends, both at her home at Waukon and here at Blair, who will mourn her untimely passing.

Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Waukon on Friday, April 4, 1980. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Waukon.
