S.W. CHAMBERS, 87

S.W. Chambers, 87, died Feb. 25, 2009, in Blair. His body has been donated to the Nebraska State Anatomical Board, and a memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

S.W. “Bill” Chambers was born June 15, 1921, in Blair to Lloyd and Bertha (Moore) Chambers.

He spent 32 years abroad in Europe, the Far East and the Middle East. He retired after 42 years with Trans Word Airlines (TWA), where he held the positions of vice president, and international and executive vice president of Saudia (Saudi Arabian Airlines).

He was ordained as a Knight Commander Order of the Holy Sepulcher by Eugene Cardinal Tisserant in Rome, Italy, and was conferred the title of Cavaliere (Knight) by Italian President Morro.

He founded the Airline Air Cadet Corps for disadvantaged youth, a movement which spread throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

After retiring in 1980, he returned home to Blair, where he lived quietly until his death.

He is survived by three adopted sons and daughters-in-law, Klaus and Jane Henneberg of San Francisco, Calif., Jimmy and Marlinda Chu of Hong Kong, and Ramon and Amelia Capeding of Cavite, the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by two adopted sons, Joseph and Frank.
