Alice Chromy, 95

Alice Chromy, 95, of Blair, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Services are pending at Mosers Funeral Home in North Bend.

Alice Nesladek was born Feb. 15, 1914, near Morse Bluff to Frank and Anna Nesladek.

On Nov. 22, 1938, she married Joseph F. Chromy. The couple lived for a short time near Linwood, Valley, and Colon before settling in North Bend where Mrs. Chromy made her lifelong home. In her later years, she lived in Arlington and Blair. She was a simple lady and a homemaker all her life. As a farmer’s wife, she enjoyed raising ducks and geese. She knitted numerous bedroom slippers for her family and crocheted afghans. She sewed most of her own clothing until her eyesight made that impossible. She enjoyed the produce from their vegetable garden and fruit trees. She liked to cook, and baked crescent rolls, kolaches and cinnamon rolls weekly for many, many years. She is also remembered for all the dill pickles she made, a well as her sauerkraut and potato dumplings.

In her later years, she spent many hours at the senior centers in North Bend and Arlington, where she enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by four children and their families, Janice and Scott Boyd of David City, Bernice “Bing” Blatny of Lincoln, Ken and Kathy Chromy of Ohiowa, and Margaret Nelson of Blair; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1996; an infant son, Joseph Jr.; brothers, Joseph, Adolph, and Edward; and a sister, Emma.
