GEORGE HINELINE DIED WEDNESDAY

FORMER DESOTO POSTMASTER, 73, DIED IN BLAIR; RITES NOT SET

George Hineline, 73, former DeSoto postmaster but a resident of Blair for three years, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 408 north Walker avenue. He had been in ill health nearly five years, bedfast for three weeks.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Hineline, DeSoto pioneers, he was born in Ohio in 1863. He was the first of a family of six children to die.

Mr. Hineline was married to Miss Lena Gutschow of DeSoto December 25, 1886, and for many years farmed near DeSoto. From 1893 until 1908 he served as DeSoto’s postmaster, after which time he went to Bellevue for a short time to operate a ferry boat on the Missouri river.

RE-CHOSEN POSTMASTER

Upon his return to DeSoto later he served as postmaster for another four years.

Surviving him are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Elmer Michlesen of Weeping Water, Mrs. William Hislip of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Maymie Klabunde of Blair; two sons, Clarence of Blair and George, Jr. of Omaha; four brother, John, Frank, Charles, and Solomon, Jr., all of DeSoto; and one sister, Mrs. Ollie Francher of Longview, Washington. Two children preceded him in death.

The body is at Campbell’s Mortuary. Services have not been announced, pending word from the daughter in Portland, but they may be held at the mortuary Sunday afternoon.

DESOTO PIONEER ANSWERS LAST CALL

GEORGE HINELINE, PIONEER OF 1863, LAID TO REST LAST SUNDAY

The grim reaper has laid his hand on another of Washington County pioneers. This time in the person of George Hineline, not only a pioneer but also a native of this county.

Deceased was born at DeSoto April 24, 1863 and grew to manhood there and was educated in the schools of the county. He was married December 25, 1886 to Lena Gutschow and to them seven children were born five of who are still living, Mrs. Mayme Klabunde and Clarence of Blair; Mrs. Edith Michelsen, of Weeping Water; Edna Hislop, of Portland, Oregon; and George of Omaha.

In early life Mr. Hineline became an engineer and followed that work for the greater part of his life and for some time was in the employ of Blair city.

He had been a sufferer for the past five years with cancer but had only been bedfast for three weeks before his death which occurred Wednesday, July 22, at 3:30 p.m.

Besides the children already mentioned he leaves his aged wife and other relatives ho mourn deeply his death.

Funeral services were held last Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Campbell mortuary under the auspices of the Masonic order of which he had long been a member. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.
