ADALAINE CLEMENTS, 91

Former Blair resident Adalaine Clements, 91, a 20-year resident of the Kelso and Longview, Wash., area died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Kelso First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home in Kelso.

Adalaine Emma Doreta Miller was born in Herman to William and Grace Miller. Her youth was spent on the family farm with her older brother, Glenn, enjoying winter sleigh rides, county and state fair competitions, and school activities.

She was baptized in Herman and attended Sunday School at the Methodist Church.

After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she enrolled and graduated from Van Sant Business School in Omaha. Upon graduation, she began working for Woodman of America Insurance Company, where she was chosen for special assignments due to her beautiful penmanship.

On Sept. 3, 1937, she married Virgil G. Clements in Omaha. The couple moved to Richland, Wash., to work at Hanford, the first of several moves between Nebraska and Washington. They also lived in Blair, Pasco, Goldendale and Vancouver, Wash., and Rufus, Ore. The couple was married for 61 years.

She was devoted to her family, keeping in close contact with them. She loved their visits and always remembered them with greeting cards. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and maintaining a spotless house. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and she continued crocheting until she was hospitalized. She was also past president of Eastern Star, and participated in the American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies of the Moose, Shrine Auxiliary, and was a member of the Kelso First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in –law, Virgil “Jerry” and Joanne Clements of Kennewick, Wash., and William Clements of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and Leroy Faling of Kelso, and Bonnie Garner of Goldendale, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Liberty; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Kelso First Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary or hospice.
