Edward John Sklenar, 64

Services for Edward John Sklenar, 64, who died August 1, 1993 at the Tekamah Nursing Center in Tekamah were Wednesday, August 4 at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Rev. Charles A. Bailey officiated. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery with the Tekamah Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3304 in charge of military graveside rites.

Edward John Sklenar was born December 13, 1928 in Burt County on a farm west of Tekamah to John E. and Mollie Crom Sklenar. One of four children, he attended country school and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1946.

He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged May 1, 1953.

He married Barbara J. Williams June 8, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Tekamah.

He worked as a farm hand for several people before he went to work at Save More Market in 1955. He was employed there until illness forced his early retirement in 1989 at which time he was presented with a watch for his 34 years of employment.

He was a member of the Tekamah VFW Post No. 3304.

He had lived at the Tekamah Nursing center for over a year due to declining health.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Tekamah; two daughters, Rev. Sherry J. Sklenar of Atkinson, Nebraska and Brenda L. Muhs of Tekamah; one brother, Earl of Tekamah; two sisters, Gwen Crannell of Tekamah and Janice (Mrs. James) Sisson of Oakland; one sister-in-law, Violet (Mrs. Robert) Hauge of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; three brothers-in-law, Elmer Jr. and his wife, Alice of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Donald Williams of Norfolk; Arthur Williams and his wife, Denise of Omaha; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Casket bearers were Lee Ott, Tom Marshall, Kenneth Owen, Dick Sheets, Everett Nelson and Garry Petersen.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
