Elaine Rojem, 78

Elaine I. Rojem, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at her home in Tekamah.

Services were Monday, Feb. 7 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Elaine Iona Anderson was born June 12, 1932, in rural Herman to Hans and Minnie (Miller) Anderson. Until the age of 8, she lived on the Omaha Indian reservation. Her family then moved to rural Herman.

She graduated from Herman High School in 1949. She received her teaching degree from Dana College in 1969 and later received an advanced degree in special education. She started her teaching career at a Washington County country school, then taught second grade at Lyons and Herman. She ended her career in Tekamah teaching special education in the elementary grades. After she retired from teaching, she volunteered with the GED program in Tekamah for five years and saw 70 students receive their GEDs. She also tutored several different students in her home.

On Aug. 22, 1956, she married Lawrence Rojem at First Lutheran Church in Blair. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage. They lived on their farm north of Tekamah for 12 years and, in 1969, moved to Tekamah.

Mrs. Rojem was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. She was active in her church and taught Sunday School and Bible school for many years.

She loved her family and friends and seeing individuals reach their education goals. She had a passion for cats, reading, baking chocolate chip cookies, shopping, eating out with friends, sending greeting cards to people for all occasions, travel, and being fashionable. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Dallas, Texas, to visit her daughter and grandson.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of Tekamah; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Wayne Thompson of Addison, Texas; one grandson; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyce and Keith Kuhr of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and Kenneth Anderson.

Lucky Mucky

Let me introduce you to a wonderful lady named Mucky,

Who should consider herself quite lucky,

She is loved by others and really knows how to care,

And is turning “66” without even one gray hair!

Her grandson, Tanner, just turned eight,

And he thinks Mucky is really great.

Her only daughter, Tamara, will soon be forty,

She is a great gal and likes things that are sporty.

Her husband is named Bo-Bo by the grandson,

He is a really neat guy and likes to have fun.

Mucky’s birthday is the 12th of June,

A pretty time of year, because many flowers are in bloom.

Mucky truly has a heart of gold,

Believe me, no one would ever guess her to be “66” years old.

This is a fun poem as you can see,

To my one and only Mucky, from me!
