MISS FRANCES CLEMMER DIES IN DES MOINES

Former Blair Business Woman Succumbs After Two Years Of Illness

Miss Frances Clemmer passed away last Tuesday morning following an illness of nearly two years. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Edna Schrek.

Deceased was well known in Blair where for a number of years she had operated a beauty parlor and later was associated with Mrs. Ruth Burr in the B & C Shop, a ladies’ furnishing business.

About two years ago she became ill and was rushed to an Omaha hospital where a diagnosis showed that she was suffering from cancer. Later she seemed to improve and was taken to the home of her sister where after long months of suffering she died.

While here she was active in the work of the O.E.S. and was a past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

The funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at Nevada, Iowa.

Miss Clemmer was a woman of ability, had traveled extensively and was a reader of good literature. She had a keen and understanding mind, and with her genial manner, made friends easily and was held in respect by those who knew her.

Former Co-Owner Of B & C Shop Here Died Tuesday In Iowa

Miss Francis Clemmer, 43, a former co-owner of the B & C Shop in Blair, died Tuesday night in Des Moines, Ia. Private funeral services are being held today at Nevada, Ia., and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.

Coming to Blair in 1934, Miss Clemmer operated a beauty shop in the present B & C location, then known as the Fashion Center. Later she entered into partnership with Mrs. Ruth Burr, forming the B & C Shop for women, and continuing to operate the beauty shop.

She was taken ill very suddenly in December, 1941, and after many months of hospitalization in Omaha, she went to Iowa where she had since made her home with relatives. Her health steadily declined until her death, Tuesday, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Edna Schreck of Des Moines. Miss Clemmer was active in the local V.F.W. auxiliary, serving a term as president of that organization. She also held membership in McKinley Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
