Mae Sigler, 86

Services were Wednesday, June 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Omaha for Mae Sigler, 86, who died June 21, 1991 at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair. Revs. Melvin Vance and Lowen Kruse officiated. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery near North Bend.

Mae Auten Sigler was born August 18, 1904 on a farm near North Bend. She grew up there and graduated as valedictorian at North Bend High School in 1922. She was a 1926 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and received a gold medal for the highest four year average.

She taught school from 1926-29 at David City. She was a volunteer director of junior high work with the Nebraska Annual Conference of the Methodist Church and wrote material for national church and youth fellowship curriculum while living in Lincoln from 1929-46.

From 1946-51, she was a parish worker in the Custer County parishes of Sargent, Comstock and Walworth Methodist Churches. She was a Nebraska Annual Conference Director of Youth Work from 1951-64 and helped establish United Methodist campsites at Fontenelle, Comeca near Cozad and Norwesca near Chadron.

She received the Nebraska Wesleyan University Alumnae Loyalty Award in 1958. From 1964-68, she was a parish worker at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Papillion. She began work as the educational assistant for Trinity United Methodist Church in Omaha in 1968. She retired in 1990 and moved to Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Omaha, AAUW, Christian Educators Fellowship and Delta Zeta Sorority.

She married Jon Sigler June 20, 1929 in North Bend. He preceded her in death May 25, 1945.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Cunningham, of Omaha.

A memorial has been established to the church and Nebraska Wesleyan University.
