Verdon W. “Chuck” Sill, 68

Services for Verdon W. “Chuck” Sill, 68, who died October 8, 1991 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 11 at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. A memorial and Masonic rites service will be Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Verdon W. “Chuck” Sill was born November 7, 1922 in Delhi, Iowa to Jane Elizabeth and Lloyd Elgin Sill. He served in the United States Army in World War II and after his discharge moved to Omaha where he met his wife, Virgene R. Freburg Sill. They were married June 17, 1949 at First Methodist Church in Omaha.

He worked at Vickers, Inc. in Omaha for 16 years. He later owned B & C Electric & Plumbing in Fort Calhoun and had served as Fort Calhoun’s city inspector for the past eight years.

He was a member of the Solomon Lodge No. 10 and American Legion Post No. 348 of Fort Calhoun. He was an avid fisherman, bird watcher and baseball fan and had a vivid sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Elgin “Joe” Sill.

He is survived by his wife, Virgene; his mother, Jane W. Hand of Monticello, Iowa; one brother, Herbert Sill of Fremont, California; three children and their spouses, Jerilyn and Chuck Welchert, Jolene and Mitch McGowan, Matthew McGowan, Andrew Welchert, Jacob Welchert and Casey Sill. He is also survived by two sons, Duaine and Gerald and their children, all of Iowa.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
