OBITUARY

The death of Mr. A.P. Simonsen, of west Washington street occurred last Tuesday, June 17 following a long illness, his health having failed gradually for the past two years since which time the family have resided in Blair.

The deceased was born in Denmark Dec. 29, 1870 and came to America in 1894. In the year 1900, he was married to Anna Bertelsen and for 22 years was engaged in farming in Clay county, Nebraska near Verona. In 1922 they came to Blair to be near Dana College where the children, four girls and one boy might go to school.

Besides the wife he leaves five children, four girls and one boy. They are Marie, Olga, Elnora, Herman and Helena, all of whom are at home.

He leaves also an aged mother, Mrs. Christina Simonsen and three brothers in Nebraska and one brother and sister in Denmark. The brothers in this country are Chris, of Hampton, Neb., Theodore, of Clay Center, Nebr., and John of Beaver Crossing with whom the mother resides.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 this afternoon, June 19, from the home with a short service and at two o’clock at the Danish Lutheran church, Rev. Nelson officiating. Burial will be made in the Blair cemetery.

A.P. Simonsen died at 7 o’clock last evening, having been in failing health for the past twenty months. The funeral will be held at the Danish church at 2 o’clock tomorrow, Thursday, Rev. H. Nelson officiating. Andreas Peter Simonsen was born at Frankfrihuset, Brylle Fyn, Denmark, December 29, 1870, so was 53 years of age last December. At an early age he was confirmed in the Lutheran church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He came to this country and settled in Clay county in 1894. He was married to Anna D. Bertelsen at Hampton, Neb., Feb. 1st, 1900, and they made their home near Verona for the next 22 years. To this union eight children were born, three of whom passed away in infancy. He is survived by his wife and five children, Marie, Olga, Eleonora, Herman and Helene; also by his aged mother, four brothers and one sister. In June of 1922 he retired from the farm and bought the old C.C. McMenemy place, where J.R. Smith lived for a number of years, where he has since resided. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
