Helen M. (McMillan) Hamilton

Blair native Helen M. Hamilton, 90, of Holdrege, died Sun, Dec. 18, 2005, at the Newton (Kan.) Medical Center. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 22 at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege with interment in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Helen M. (McMillan) was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Blair to Bruce and Nora Edna (Day) McMillan. She attended school in Blair, graduating from Blair High School with the Class of 1932. Following graduation, she assisted in the office of the Washington County Clerk of the District Court and was Assistant County Clerk in 1941.

On Jan. 1, 1942, she married Edwin L. Hamilton of Blair. The family made their home in Pennsylvania, where Mr. Hamilton worked briefly in Pittsburgh for the Westinghouse Electric Company before moving to Sharon, Penn. In 1945, the family moved to Hastings, where Mr. Hamilton was employed by the Central Nebraska Public Power District. In 1949, they moved to Gothenburg, where Mr. Hamilton continued to work for CNPPID, until transferring to Holdrege in 1963.

Mrs. Hamilton is remembered as a supportive, loving wife, mother and grandmother who focused her efforts towards her family and her church.

She was active in the Baptist churches in Sharon, Penn., Hastings, Gothenburg, and Holdrege, where she was involved in Sunday School, choir and women’s groups.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary R. Hamilton and her husband, Irvin L. “Jack” White of Waterloo, and Nancy A. and Eric Otte of Valley Center, Kan.; two grandsons; four great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Beryl McMillan of Chico, Calif.; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Paul C. and Willie Ruth Hamilton of San Antonio, Texas, Robert B. and Donna Hamilton of Arvada, Colo., and Charles A. and Cot Hamilton of Omaha; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; and two brothers, Robert B. and Bert D. McMillan.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Holdrege.

Hamilton and his wife Willie Ruth of San Antonio, TX, Robert B. Hamilton and his wife, Donna of Arvada, Colorado and Charles A. Hamilton and his wife, Dot of Omaha , NE and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by husband of almost 64 years, Edwin Hamilton (September 30, 2005); parents; two brothers: Robert B. McMillan and Bert D. McMillan.

Mrs. Hamilton will lie in state on Wednesday, at the Funeral Home from 1-0 pm with the family greeting from 6:30-8pm. Funeral Services Thurs. 10am, First Baptist Church in Holdrege, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Winget, officiating. Interment Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege. A memorial has been established in her memory to the First Baptist Church in Holdrege.

The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
