Services for Bessie “Betty” Hammang, 96 of Fremont who died September 20, 1994 at Fremont Care Center were Friday, September 23 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Dana Mark officiated. Burial, with order of Eastern Star Services by Arbor Vitae Chapter No. 92 of Fremont was in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Betty Yantz was born February 19, 1898 in Daykin, where she grew up. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and from the university’s school of music in 1923.

She married Leonard Hammang October 30, 1923 in Daykin.

She lived in Omaha from 1926-1933 when she moved to Sioux City. She moved to Lincoln in 1939 and to Fremont in 1940 where she and her husband opened Hammang Locker Plant.

She was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter No. 92 Order of Eastern Star, Fremont Nile Club, Fremont Women’s Club and Altrusa International, all of Fremont. She was also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Musical Society and Hathor Temple No. 38, Daughters of the Nile at Sioux City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (a former Arlington resident) November 14, 1997; her parents, William P. and Viola M. Saylor Yantz; two sons, Eugene Hammang and Jerome Hammang; a grandson and a granddaughter.

She is survived by a son, Gerald of Fremont and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jerry Sokolovsky, Larry Harpster, Rudy Oeltjen, Jerry Vondenkamp, Dennis Zakovec and Larry Yost.

A memorial has been established to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children. Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
