DR. JOHN “JACK” CADY, 81

Dr. John D. “Jack” Cady, 81, of Arlington, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at his home in Sun City. Ariz.

Services were Friday, Jan. 21, at the Arlington City Auditorium in Arlington. The Revs. Lynn Martin and Shirley Schmidt officiated.

Pallbearers were Dr. Louis Otto, Dr. Bernard Fletcher, E.W. “Dutch” Feuerstein, Robert Monke, Nick Lamme, Everett “Mike” Smith and Paul Larson.

Dr. John D. Cady was born June 26, 1918, to Dr. Pearl L. and Margaret (Larson) Cady in Arlington. He lived all his life in Arlington, except for when he attended college. He was a 1936 graduate of Arlington High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year, Midland College in Fremont for one year and finally graduated from Kansas State University in 1942 as a doctor of veterinary medicine.

On Sept. 3, 1943, he married Elaine Elmore in Fremont.

He was a member of the Arlington Community Church, U.C.C. and served as past chairman and moderator of the church council; Hiram Masonic Lodge #52, A.F. and A.M. of Arlington and previous treasurer; Tangier Shrine of Omaha; Royal Order of Jesters, Omaha Court # 9; life member of Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and served on the rural fire board; served on the Arlington Village Board from 1966 to 1980; and a member and past president of the former Arlington Community Club.

He served on the Boy Scout Council of Troop 145 from 1950 to 1970; former member of Board of Trustees of Memorial Hospital of Dodge County.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Arlington Education Association for service to the community in 1990.

He was a life member of the Nebraska State Veterinary Medical Association and served as president from 1959 to 1961; life member of American Veterinary Medicine; president of Interstate Veterinary Medical Association from 1952 to 1953; and the Nebraska State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine from 1949 to 1955.

He was appointed admiral in the Nebraska Navy by Gov. Crosby. He served on the Lower Elkhorn Watershed Planning Board in 1962. He was on the State Judicial Committee to select district judges in 1964 and was on the University of Nebraska at Lincoln Presidents Advisory Board in the 1980s.

He was a past president of the Nebraska State Sportman’s Association and a district director for many years. He was inducted into the Nebraska State Sportman’s Association Hall of Fame in 1987 for outstanding contributions to the sport of trap shooting. He won the Nebraska State Trapshooting Championship in 1952 and was a past president of Nebraska State Amateur Trapshooting Association.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jon R. Cady and his fiancée, Chari Felton of Omaha and Tom and Nancy Cady of Blair; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Cady of Peoria, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Catherine Cady of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Alicia Cady of Fremont, Stephanie Elliott of Houston, Texas, Catherine, Angela and Matthew Cady, all of Blair; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dr. Duane Cady.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church; Arlington Community Foundation; Arlington Education Foundation; Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont; or the Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
