FONTANELLE NEWS

Mrs. Lucy Cook died at her home here early on Friday morning following an illness of cancer of a number of years duration. She spent many months at different hospitals and health resorts with a hope of effecting a cure but all proved of no avail. The end came apparently calm and without pain at 3:30 a.m. Friday, May 25th, with a number of her children who have given her the tenderest care during her declining years at her bedside.

Lucy McMullin was born on January 27th, 1852, in Clearfield, Pa. In 1864 she came with her parents and brothers to Nebraska and located on a farm three miles north of Fontanelle where she shared in the experiences of early pioneer life.

On September 12, 1871, she was married to James Cook and settled down to housekeeping in the village of Fontanelle where she has remained continuously during the remainder of her life. Twelve children were born to the union of whom eleven survive their mother.

The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the local Lutheran church with Rev. F.C. Schuldt officiating and amid the participation of a large circle of mourning relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Oak Lawn cemetery.

The immediate surviving relatives are her aged mother, Hannah McMullin of Craig, who is 99 years old, one brother, A.O. McMullin, who resides on the old homestead north of town and seven sons and four daughters as follows: Lester Cook Octavia, Neb.; Roy Cook, Scribner, Neb; Arthur C. Cook, Denver, Col.; Guy Cook, Blair; Jack Cook, Inman, Neb.; Victor Cook, Bloomfield, Neb.; Myrtle Lane, Kanorado, Kan.; Misses Hallie, Bula and Dora and Dennis Cook of Fontanelle.
