Robert W. Hammer, 69, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley.

Funeral services were held March 1 at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, with Pastor Ron Wymer officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Memorial Garden in Missouri Valley. Military honors were provided by the Julius F. Muller American Legion Post 337 of Missouri Valley.

Robert W. Hammer was born Aug. 30, 1931 in Ogden, Utah, to Clyde W. and Ethelyne (Miller) Hammer.

He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1950 with honors and devotion to the Thespian Club. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

On Dec. 27, 1975, he married Ellen Kahre in Missouri Valley. He worked for Vickers in Omaha from 1956 until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed his family and his grandchildren, fishing and in his younger days, automobiles.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Hammer of South Dakota, Phillip and Laura Smith of Omaha, Curtis and Betty Smith of Missouri Valley, a sister, Ann Carberry of Tooele, Utah, a brother, Clyde E. “Mike” Hammer of Omaha, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ginger, and her son, Jason Masters.

Hennessey-Aman funeral Home in Missouri Valley was in charge of arrangements.
