J. K. Hancock father of our townsman, Waldo Hancock, died at his home in Tekamah July 5th. James K. Hancock was born December 6, 1842 at Clearfield, Penn., and died July 5th, 1923, age 81 years. In 1862 he enlisted in Company B, 149 Regiment, Penn. Volunteer Infantry and served until mustered out at the close of the war. He was married to Miss Sarah F. Rankin at Brookville County, Penn., May 2, 1875 to that union ten children were born all of whom with their mother survive to mourn the loss of a husband and father. In June 1881 Mr. Hancock moved his family to Nebraska and located on a farm 9 miles northwest of Herman where he resided until 1911 when he moved to Tekamah.
