Funeral services for John R. Hancock, 45, of Fremont, were Monday, March 25, 2002, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, with the Rev. Cynthia Cone officiating. Interment was in the Herman Cemetery. Mr. Hancock died Thursday, March 21, in Omaha, following an industrial accident.

John R. Hancock was born Aug. 31, 1956, in Oakland to Richard and Patty (Farrens) Hancock. He grew up on a farm between Herman and Tekamah. He was baptized and confirmed in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. He was an Eagle Scout, and graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School. He also attended the Curtis Technical School for production agriculture.

Mr. Hancock was employed by the Campbell Soup Co. in Fremont, then transferred to the plant in LaVista 11 years ago. The company is now known as Pinnacle Foods Corp.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, and of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200 Club. His hobbies were fishing and playing cards.

On July 18, 1981, he married Sharon Renter in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, three daughters, Beth, Becky, and Bonnie, and a son, Jonathan, all at home; parents, Richard and Patty Hancock, of rural Tekamah, parents-in-law, Ernest and Patsy Renter of Leshara; two sisters and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Jack Stearns of Raymond, and Joyce Vittitoe of Omaha, a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery and Cora Hancock of Suffolk, Va., three sisters-in-law, Laura Renter of Wahoo, Judy Renter of Valley, and Linda and husband, Dennis Christenson of Bennington, and brother-in-law, Ernest Renter of Leshara.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
