EARL DUNN MCCARDELL

Passed away peacefully in San Jose, CA at 12:00 a.m. July 11, 2011. Earl was born January 20, 1925 in Tekamah, Nebraska to the late Tracy and Esther McCardell. In 1950 he moved to Houston, TX. In Houston, he met and later married Ruby Rae Price and this is where their three children, Diane, Shelley and Brad were born. In 1962, the family moved to San Jose, CA. Earl owned and operated National Brands Hearing Aid Center in Willow Glen for 45 years until his retirement.

He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his children and two grandchildren, giving of his time selflessly. He was the patriarch of the McCardell family with a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Rae, in January 2010 and his sister Betty French in August 2003. He is survived by his children, Diane Medley (Travis) of Bermuda Dunes, CA; Shelley Giovannini (Tom) of San Jose, CA; Brad McCardell of Redlands, CA; granddaughters Sarah and Rebecca Giovannini of San Jose, CA; step-grandson Travis III and his wife Michelle and their 3 children, Travis IV, Lauren and Claire. He is also survived by his sister Janet Soucie of Omaha, NE; sister Ethelann Jackson of Lake Forest, IL; and Robert McCardell (Donna) of Big Bear City, CA. Earl is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and long-time friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 29 at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church of Milpitas, 1000 South Park Victoria Drive, Milpitas, CA 95035. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the or to VITAS Hospice Charitable Fund at 39899 Balentine Drive, # 161, Newark, CA 94560.

(additional: Earl McCardell was oldest son of Trace E. (Tracy) and Esther (Dunn) McCardell. Tracy married Annie Irene Jacobson, Ola Jacobson’s 7th child.)
