William N. Smith was born to Cecil and Bessie (Powers) Smith September 4, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away February 15, 2016, at home, after a short illness.

Bill graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1943.

On May 27, 1944, Bill was married to Bonnie Olson in Stuttgart, Arkansas. They lived most of their lives in Omaha, where he had a brake and clutch wholesale business. In 1996, they moved to Tekamah, Nebraska, where Bill lived until his death.

Bill served in World War II and was a member of the Omaha VFW and American Legion. He was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah until his failing health prevented his participation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and seven sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Bonnie; son, Bill (Carol) Smith of Sandy, OR; daughters, Barb (Bill) Patterson of Tekamah, Patti (Steve) Fitch of Elkhorn, NE; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

Memorial Service: Thursday, February 18, 2016, 10:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with Rev. Duncan Nichol, Officiating and military honors by VFW Bataan Post No. 3304 and American Legion LaFrenz Post No. 15.

Organist: Leanne Dorathy

Soloist: Diane Sheets

Honorary Bearers: Steve Fitch, Bill Patterson, Eric Fitch, Kyle Fitch, Sandy Joint, Jeff Joint, Carol Smith, Kevin Smith, April Smith.

No visitation. Burial at a later date.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, First Presbyterian Church Tekamah or the Tekamah Fire and Rescue.
