Wayne H. Cotton, 78

Wayne H. Cotton, 78, of rural Arlington, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle. Pastor Titus Ngebeh will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71, both of Arlington.

Visitation began Monday, and will also be held at the church one hour prior to services.

Wayne H. Cotton was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Barney to Lloyd and Ruth (Higgins) Cotton. He grew up in Peru and graduated from Peru High School.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from June 23, 1943, until May 1, 1946. He served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater, and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving in the military, he returned to Peru, where he worked on a dredge on the Missouri River. He moved to Omaha and worked at Wilson Packing Company from 1957 until 1975, then worked as a custodian for the Millard School District from 1975 until 1990. He moved to rural Arlington in 1978 and retired in 1990.

On July 15, 1978, he married Maude Eckert Meier at Salem Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle and had served as the church sexton. He was a member of Arlington VFW Post No. 8332 and Service Employees Union Local No. 226 of Omaha.

He is survived by his wife, Maude; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Meier, Barb and Jerry Carson, all of Fremont, Virginia and Jerry Nordboe of North Bend, Marilyn and Paul Mejstrick of Omaha, and Teresa Meier of Glendale, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Diane Cotton, Steve Cotton, and Jack and Vickie Cotton, all of Omaha; a brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Shirley Cotton of Humboldt, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle Building Fund or the National Kidney Foundation.

ARLINGTON-The funeral for Wayne H. Cotton, 78 of rural Arlington will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle.

He died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home.

He was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Barney. He grew up in Peru and graduated from Peru High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from June 23, 1943, to May 1, 1946. Survivors include: his wife; five daughters, Nancy Meier, Barb (Mrs. Jerry) Carson, all of Fremont, Virginia (Mrs. Jerry) Nordboe of North Bend, Marilyn (Mrs. Paul) Mejstrik of Omaha and Teresa Meier of Lincoln; four sons, Richard (and wife, Barb) Meier of Glendale, Ariz., Larry (and wife, Diane) Cotton, Steve Cotton and Jack (and wife, Vickie) Cotton, all of Omaha; a brother, Vern (and wife, Shirley) Cotton of Humboldt; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Titus Ngebeh will officiate Tuesday’s service. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by V.F.W. Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.

Memorials have been established to Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle Building Fund and the National Kidney Foundation.
