Services for James H. Haney, 81 of Fremont who died October 9, 1993 at his home were Tuesday, October 12 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont, Rev. Carol Roettmer Brewer officiated. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with Masonic graveside services conducted by members of Hiram Lodge 52 A.F. & A.M.

James H. Haney was born May 26, 1912 on the family farm east of Fremont. He attended Fremont Schools.

He served with the United States Army with the Field Artillery 80, Battery E in 1936-37. He then served with the National Guard until 1940.

He worked at the Mead Ordinance Plant during 1942 and farmed east of Fremont from 1939-1980. He moved into Fremont in 1967 and after retiring, he worked part time for the Fremont Parks and Recreation Department for several years.

He served on the Elkhorn Township board for 25 years. He also served on the board of School District V and was its treasurer from 1950-62. He was on the board of the rural fire department of Elkhorn Township.

He was a past master of Hiram Masonic Lodge 52 A.F & A.M of Arlington, past worthy patron of Sarepta Chapter 48 Order of Eastern Star of Arlington and was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star of Fremont. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont.

He married Clara Rix March 27, 1940 in Fremont.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; a son, Edgar of Solon, Iowa; a daughter, Glenda Gilbertson of Independence, Missouri; a brother, George of Fremont; four sisters, a twin, Mary Hoffman and Vera Haney and Alice Delaney, all of Fremont and Lillian Duncan of Spring Valley, California and five grandchildren.

Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
