John Coulter died at his home in this city last Wednesday and the funeral was held there at 11 o’clock Friday morning, Rev. D. M. Sayles officiating. The body was taken to the Kennard cemetery for interment. Mr. Coulter was born in Virginia, Aug. 13th, 1832, and moved, with his parents to Ohio when he was one year old. When he was sixteen they moved to Jay county, Indiana, when he was 21 to Davenport and from there to DeSoto in April, 1857. There his father died June 10th, 1858 and in 1862 he enlisted in Co. C of the 2nd Neb. regiment. At the close of the war he married Miss Juda Burns and they lived together until death separated them in 1887. On Oct. 29, 1888 he was married to Mrs. Fannie Jackson, who with one son, Jessie W. survives him.

John Coulter died at his home in Blair Wednesday, Nov. 25, and was buried on Friday. Mr. Coulter was born in Virginia Aug. 13, 1832, and moved with his parents to Ohio when he was one year old, remaining there until he was 16 years old, and then moved to Jay county, Indiana, where he lived until he was 21. From there he moved to Davenport and then came to DeSoto, April 20, 1857. His father died at DeSoto on June 10, 1857. Mr. Coulter enlisted in Co. C 2nd Nebr., and after his enlistment had expired he was married to Miss Juda Burns, Oct. 29, 1863. Mrs. Coulter died July 29, 1887. On Oct. 29, 1888, he was married to Mrs. Fannie Jackson and one child was born to them. He leaves a wife and one son and a brother to mourn his loss. Ye scribe first became acquainted with Mr. Coulter in Jay county, Indiana, our parents emigrating about the same time and I have known him ever since. He was a man of good habits and always lived a consistent Christian life and was loved by all who knew him. We sincerely sympathize with the wife, son and brother. Blitz.

The funeral of John Coulter was held from the Christian church at 11 o’clock Friday morning. The remains were taken to Kennard for interment. Mr. Coulter’s death occurred at 8 o’clock Wednesday morning. He was 76 years of age.

W. E. Swihart and J. W. Lecrone went to Blair Friday to act as pallbearers at John Coulter’s funeral. They went over on the train and drove back, interment being made in the Kennard cemetery.

Note: Kennard Cemetery Find a Grave Memorial # 16821904; Buried in Blk 5 Lot 26; John has no headstone. He is the one who purchased the lots and is buried next to his 2nd wife Francelia Emma Cady Jackson Coulter and she also does not have a headstone. They are both beside Lydia Jackson marker which is a tree trunk stone.
