D.M. Hannah, 77, Died Monday At Blair Hospital

David Myrle Hannah, a resident of Blair for more than twenty years, died Monday at the Blair Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Hannah was born June 11, 1900 at Blanchard, Iowa and was 77 years year of age at his death. To his friends he was known as “Curley”. He was a printer by trade, and was one of the few remaining metal type printers who had shared in the production of early day newspapers.

He was married to Florence Nyrah Knight at Shenandoah, Iowa on May 4, 1927. Two daughters were born to this union, Donna and Merlyn Joyce.

When he moved to Blair in 1941 he came to work on The Enterprise mechanical staff and he continued in that capacity until his retirement. The family came to Blair from Bethany, Missouri.

He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his country for 8 years.

Later he attended Brookings College at Brookings, South Dakota and upon completion of his work there he became a professional printer.

He developed a great love of the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. He also did some art work, his painting of a lone buck deer having been among the prize winners at one of the Blair Art Shows.

Mrs. Don Rouse and Mrs. James Wulf of Blair are nieces.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in 1918 and 1919. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Florence and by two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Donna) Husk, of Herman, and by Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Lutz, of Perry, Iowa. There are four grandsons and two great-granddaughters. A sister Mrs. Nellie Christie lives in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning July 14, at 10 a.m. at the Campbell Mortuary. The Rev. Gordon Patterson of the United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gale, Gordon and Lyle Husk, Robert, Patrick, and Michael Lutz and Alva Barrett.
