FARMER, 62, IS KILLED BY LIGHTNING

WAS HOEING WEEKS IN CORNFIELD WHEN SEVERE BOLT STRUCK

Axel Hansen, 62 years of age, was killed by lightning Monday while hoeing weeds in a corn field on his farm approximately eight miles southwest of Blair Monday.

It is believed that Mr. Hansen was killed by a bolt of lightening at approximately 10 a.m. Monday as neighbors reported a severe bolt of lightning struck in the area about that time.

When he did not return home his wife, Emma Hansen called neighbors and a searching party was organized and his body was found in the corn field about 5 o’clock by a neighbor, Ronald Jensen.

Mr. Hansen was badly burned, his clothing torn to shreds and some of his clothing found 10 feet from his body.

Mr. Hansen is survived by his wife, Emma; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Novak (Marie) of Blair, Mrs. Ben Fischer (Esther) of Blair, Mrs. Bernard Gosker (Lyla) of Arlington and Miss Lorraine Hansen at home. Also three grandchildren; three brothers, Hans Hansen of Omaha, Calle of Blair and Pete Hansen of Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. Maren Anderson of Denmark.

Mr. Hansen was born March 9, 1897 in Denmark.

The Bendorf Funeral Home is charge of funeral arrangements.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o’clock at the First Lutheran Church the Rev. George Palleson officiating with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

The pallbearers are Ted Nelson, Ronald, Ernest and William Jensen, Clyde and Charles French.
